VALUE OF LANDFILL PROPERTY STILL BEING ASSESSED

A decision on the value of some 950 acres in Pulaski County being condemned for a regional landfill had not been reached by press time Tuesday night.

It was the second day of the hearing on the Cloyd District property, which belongs to Richard Matson and will be sold to the New River Resource Authority.

Lynchburg Realtor Lowell Milton, an appraiser hired by the authority, estimated the value of the land north of Dublin and 2.3 miles east of Virginia 100 at $335,316.

Samuel B. Long, an appraiser with Miller Long and Associates of Roanoke hired by Matson, placed the value at $640,593.

The decision on what Matson will be paid rests with five commissioners hearing the case. The landfill will serve Pulaski County, the city of Radford and the town of Dublin for an estimated 50 to 70 years. It will replace the Ingles Mountain landfill in Radford which will be used up in 1997.
