HEPATITIS A INOCULATIONS STILL AVAILABLE

Customers of the Dairy Queen on Orange Avenue who missed the hepatitis A immune globulin inoculation clinic Tuesday at the Roanoke Health Department have another chance. The clinics have been extended for two more days.

Inoculations are available today and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Health Department, at 515 Eighth St. S.W.

People who ate at the Orange Avenue Dairy Queen between Oct. 24 and 29 should get the injection.

The shot is not a vaccine against the illness or a treatment, but it can reduce the chances of becoming ill.

The Health Department administered 500 shots Tuesday. That's in addition to the 1,242 given since Friday, when the department learned that a part-time worker at the restaurant had hepatitis A.

People exposed before Oct. 24 will not benefit from the shot.
