Rogers Jones was recently elected president of the Kiwanis Club of the Roanoke Valley for 1994-95.
Other officers elected were: Andrew Slemp, first vice president; Henry Kruse, second vice president; Robert Turner Jr., treasurer; and Tom Hahn, secretary.
Elected to the board of directors were: Larry Edwards, Bob Gasparoli, Mason Miller, Ray Carr, Jack Sale, Jim Tapley, Loy Self and Ed Kuzas.
Roanoke Kiwanians elect officers
Stephen A. McGraw was recently elected president of the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke for 1994-95.
Other officers elected were: Robert E. Brailsford, president elect; Vernon A. Danielson, vice president; John M. Shumate Jr., secretary-treasurer; Jacqueline S. Bledsoe, past president; and Howard C. Zerbst, president of the Kiwanis Foundation.
Roanokers' work in juried review
A color poster featuring the work of three Roanokers is included in the juried annual review edition of "Letter Arts Review."
Designer and calligrapher Dianne W. Smith used photography by Richard Boyd and text by Terry Smith to create a promotional item for Dominion Graphic Services in Roanoke. The ad was one of 56 chosen from 600 entries for publication in the journal.
Dianne Smith is a free-lance artist in calligraphy and graphic design. Her work appears in a variety of media throughout the Roanoke Valley.
Boyd owns Richard Boyd Photography and provides photography for advertising agencies and commercial clients in the Roanoke area.
Terry Smith is free-lance copy editor specializing in marketing and healthcare communications.
Roanokers published in book of poetry
Four Roanoke poets will have their work published in Vol. 10 of The Poet's Domain titled "Those Move Easiest Who Have Learned To Dance."
Laddie Fisher, Becky Mushko, Richard Raymond III and Peggy Waldron are four of 101 regional poets featured in ROAD Publishers' largest poetry book in the series. Vol. 10 should be in local bookstores soon.
Area poets are invited to submit poems for Vol. 11 by Dec. 16. Poets should request the publisher's "Submission Requirements and Guidelines" by mailing a stamped, self-addressed business envelope to ROAD Publishers, P. O. Box 431, Painter, VA, 23420.
Volunteers needed for LOA programs
The League Of Older Americans needs volunteers for its Senior Companion Program in the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt and Craig. Companions give four hours daily helping other seniors with every day activities.

Also, volunteers are needed to help plan "Lunch on the Lawn '95," LOA's annual benefit for Meals-on-Wheels. Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, make phone calls and deliveries. Call Kevin at 345-0451 for more information.
Museum contest winners named
The Virginia Museum of Transportation has announced the winners of the 1994 Kemper A. Dobbins Transportation Art Exposition.
James Underwood of Bedford was the first place winner for his painting "Early Departure Roanoke." Lee Baker of Roanoke received second in show for her painting "Memories of the Line." Pam Ogden of Salem won third in show for her entry "City Regatta."
WSLS to honor 8 for Black History Month
WSLS (Channel 10) is seeking eight Roanoke-area blacks who are notable for their service to the community.
The station will salute the honorees on the air during February in recognition of Black History Month.

Red Cross chooses Salem youth for award
Nat Joiner, son of Dan and Jennifer Joiner of Salem, recently accepted the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award from the American Red Cross.
Joiner volunteered more than 100 hours and was chosen for the award by the staff at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was one of 14 selected from 126 volunteers from the Roanoke Valley.
Joiner, an eighth-grader at Andrew Lewis Middle School, also won third place in the American Red Cross essay contest.
