After the second 20 minutes, the Cavaliers' coach wasn't so sure.
``We were outstanding in the first half in every area but free throws,'' Jones said after a 93-73 victory over the Polish national team at University Hall. ``We were very, very sharp.
``In the second half, we went out there and stunk it up. I think it's unfortunate. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.''
The Cavaliers led by as many as 27 points in taking a 59-34 halftime lead, but the Poles cut the deficit to 16 at one point.
It was the reverse of Poland's game Tuesday night at Maryland, where the Terrapins had a 49-45 lead at the half, but blew out the visitors in the second half en route to a 111-75 triumph.
Virginia was led by point guard Cory Alexander, who hit nine of 13 shots from the field and finished with game highs of 27 points and 11 assists. He also had more turnovers - seven - than any other player.
Yuri Barnes, in a bid to regain his starting job at center, had 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Chris Alexander has started ahead of Barnes in both exhibitions.
The game marked the return to action of Jason Williford, who suffered a severely sprained ankle in practice Oct.21. Williford played nine minutes and should be 100 percent physically when the Cavaliers open the regular season Nov.16 against Old Dominion in the Preseason NIT.
Freshman Curtis Staples from Roanoke started in place of Jamal Robinson, who had been ailing, and contributed 13 points. Jones began the game in a full-court press, and a three-guard alignment of Staples, Harold Deane and Cory Alexander helped UVa race to a 21-5 lead.
