The tours will be from 2 to 7 p.m. and will feature homes along Salem's High Street.
Mary Crockett Hill, director of the Salem Museum, said the historical society hopes to make this an annual event with tours concentrating on a different neighborhood each year.
All of the houses on High Street that will be included in the tour will be within walking distance of each other, Hill said, and tour participants will be given a brochure explaining the historic significance of each home.
Guides will be in each home. Hill also said the tour is planning to have instrumental or vocal music in each home.
Throughout the afternoon of the tour, a reception featuring herbs and natural foods will be held at the Salem Museum under the sponsorship of herb growers in the Roanoke Valley.
Tickets for the tour are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Checks, marked "home tour," for advance tickets should be sent to the museum at 801 E. Main St. in Salem.
