MORE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT SOUGHT FOR PULASKI STUDENTS|

A lack of parent involvement is being cited by many agencies in Pulaski County as a big factor in putting young people at risk of problems in schools or with the legal system.

That came out of a session earlier this month among agencies involved with youth, including the county school system, court services, commonwealth's attorney's office, Sheriff's Office, Department of Social Services, and the Pulaski and Dublin town Police Departments.

The agencies sent representatives to a meeting at the School Board office last week to look into coordinating school and community efforts to prevent youth problems and improving communication between schools and agencies.

``It's a brainstorming group,'' Karen Clymer, coordinator of pupil personnel services for the school system, told the county School Board Wednesday night.

``One thing that came from all agencies was lack of parent involvement,'' said Superintendent Bill Asbury. ``We're not sure how to solve that one.''
