Virginia, ranked fourth in the nation, will face either Clemson or Maryland in a semifinal at 8 p.m. today at Clemson's Riggs Field.
The Cavaliers (16-3) scored their first goal nine minutes into the game on a shot by Friends from outside the penalty box. Tain Nix assisted on the goal, Friends' 13th of the season.
A.J. Wood made it 2-0 when he rifled a shot to the upper-left corner of the goal at 18 minutes, 43 seconds for his 18th goal of the season.
The Demon Deacons, who were outshot 18-2, ended their season at 10-8-1.

Virginia Tech has announced the signing of three women's basketball recruits. Kelly Drinka of Maryville, Tenn., Katie O'Connor of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Lisa Witherspoon of Newton, N.C., will join the Hokies for the 1995-96 season.
Drinka, a 6-foot-1 power forward, missed most of her junior season at Maryville High School with a knee injury, but was an honorable-mention All-State choice after averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
O'Connor, a 5-11 shooting guard, led Durham Academy to a 24-3 record while averaging 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals as a junior. She was a preseason honorable-mention All-America selection by Street & Smith's magazine.
Witherspoon, a 5-6 point guard, was a 1993 USA Today preseason honorable-mention All-American. She averaged 17 points, six assists and six steals as a junior at Newton-Conover High School.
In Blacksburg, Virginia Tech closed its men's soccer season with a 1-0 victory over Radford in the annual battle for the New River Rock.
Rodney Walsh's goal 12 minutes into the second half proved to be the difference for the Hokies (7-12). Each team failed to convert a penalty kick in the second half, with the Highlanders' Ian Spooner shooting wide in the opening moments of the second half and Tech's Chris Edmonds hitting the right post with seven minutes left.
Maryland-Baltimore County came away with top honors and Radford senior Freddi Jones was a second-team selection on the All-Big South Conference volleyball team.
UMBC's Judy Jackson, a senior setter, was voted most valuable player and the Retrievers' Catherine Lavery was named coach of the year in balloting by the conference's coaches.
ETC. Martinsville plans souvenir days
Martinsville Speedway will bring together 16 Winston Cup souvenir trailers, including that of series champion Dale Earnhardt, on Dec.10-11 in an event that will benefit the children of Henry County.
Admission is free, but fans who donate a new toy will be given a Martinsville Speedway T-shirt, and the toys will be given to the Henry County and Martinsville departments of social services for distribution to area children.
Trailers will be parked on the track's straightaway from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec.10 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec.11.
With one of the year's largest crowds expected for tonight's Salem-Northside football game, Roanoke County officials have made arrangements for extra parking at Northside. The Blue Ridge District matchup, which will decide the league title, is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Vikings athletic director Ed Deeds said parking at Northside will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be additional parking at the Kroger offices and the Melrose Baptist Church on Peters Creek Road, with shuttle buses running before and after the game between those sites and the football field. The parking lot at the Kroger offices will not open until 6 p.m., and the lot at the church will open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets will be on sale today at both schools. The stadium opens at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $4 for adults and $3 for students.
