The Cavaliers advanced to the district final against Martinsville Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Magna Vista. They also earned a spot in the Region III tournament, where their first opponent will be Salem Nov. 15 at Magna Vista.
Hall, a guard, scored 13 of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter when the Cavaliers' outscored Bassett 17-12.
Bassett (17-5) had taken a 57-56 lead with 13 seconds left in the game after Patricia Green converted on a bounce pass from Kim Hairston. Hall then was fouled and made the free throws to give the Cavaliers (16-6) the victory.
Bassett had one last chance, but the Bengals missed a shot and the Cavaliers got the rebound as time ran out.
The loss for Bassett marks the end of an outstanding high school career for Hairston, who finished with 20 points, but managed only five in the second half. Heather Burke added 15 points for the Bengals, who lost three of their final five games.
Fieldale-Collinsville's Cicely Becker added 17 points - all in the first half - and junior center T.J. Hayes chipped in 16.
Martinsville 75, Patrick County 52: At Ridgeway, Tresita Holland and Erica Brandon combined for 48 points as the Bulldogs advanced to the Piedmont District tournament final with the easy quarterfinal victory over Patrick County.
Martinsville (19-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed. Holland finished with a game-high 28 points and Brandon added 20, including 10 in the third quarter. Senior point guard Sam Ferguson chipped in 10 points as every Bulldog player scored.
Patrick County was led by Summer East with 16 points and Amy Nelson with 14.
Martinsville will play Fieldale-Collinsville Saturday night at 7:30 at Magna Vista for the Piedmont title. The Bulldogs, by virtue of their regular-season championship, will get a first round bye in the Region III tournament next week.
Wednesday's game
Castlewood 57, Rural Retreat 46: In Castlewood, Shannon Casteel scored a game-high 24 points, including some clutch free throws in the fourth quarter, to lead the Blue Devils past the Indians in a semifinal of the Hogoheegee District tournament.
Casteel made 14 of 16 free throws in the game, including seven of eight in the final four minutes to help top-seeded Castlewood (19-3) extend what had been a two-point lead.
Fifth-seeded Rural Retreat (14-8) was led by Beth Ketner, who had 16 points and had nine steals. Angie Rosenbaum added 13 points for the Indians.
Castlewood advances to the district final against Chilhowie.
