GLENVAR TOPS KNIGHTS

The sister act of Marilea and Erika Hale combined for 29 points to lead Glenvar to a 56-22 victory over James River on Thursday night in a semifinal of the Pioneer District girls' basketball tournament.

The Highlanders will play for the tournament title against Parry McCluer, a 47-44 semifinal winner over Covington, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at James River.

Glenvar defeated the Knights for the second time in as many weeks, this time pulling away from the tip-off. Marilea Hale led the Glenvar charge with 15 points, including a 3-pointer. Erika Hale finished with 14 points and Toree Morris added nine.

Angie Johnson, James River's only senior, ended her career by leading the Knights with eight points.
