BAILEY, Virginia Era, 74, of Ripplemead, died Thursday, November 10, 1994, in a Rich Creek nursing home. Born on Little Creek in Bland County, she was a daughter of the late Emmett and Willie Parcell Davis. Her husband, Homer W. Bailey, preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Baily Jones, Hutchinson, Kan.; two sisters, Elsie Davis, Pulaski, and Elizabeth D. Palmer, Chesapeake; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 14, 1994, 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, Pembroke. Burial will be in the Bailey Family Cemetery on the Old Ingleside Road near Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
BALES, Grady L., 59, of Groseclose, died Friday, November 11, 1994, in Friendship Nursing Home in Roanoke. He is survived by one sister, Wilma B. Snyder of Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Fred B. Bales of Richmond, Frank E. Bales of Anderson, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 14, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God of Atkins with the Rev. Ron Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. BARNETT-SHELTON, Taylor Douglas, infant son of Sara Jane Barnett and Paul C. Shelton Jr., of Christiansburg, died Thursday, November 10, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Also surviving are one half sister, Jessica Nicole Shelton, Roanoke; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas C. Barnett, Christiansburg, Linda S. Lucas, Radford, and Paul C. BLAIR, Horace Hugh Sr., 81, of Lexington, died Saturday, November 11, 1994 at his home. Mr. Blair was born May 4, 1913 in Lochart, S.C. a son of the late Franklin Andrew Blair and Laura Jane Snyder Blair. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He played triple A baseball for 3 years with the Cardinal organization and was offered the 2nd base spot on the St. Louis team in 1938. He was an avid golfer and won the Southern Junior Seniors in Pinehurst 36 years ago. He was retired C.E.O. with the David Charwick Knitting Mills. He will be missed by family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Flora Glover Blair; two sons, H. Hugh Blair Jr., Lexington, Gene Andrew Blair, Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Brenda B. Saleeby, N. Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Roy F. Blair, Union, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Blackman, Union, S.C., Mrs. Keith Bailey, Union, S.C., Mrs. Hall Boyle, Spartenburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Stephanie Saleeby, Crystal and Andrew Blair, H. Hugh Blair III; great-grandson, Nicholas Pete Blair. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William K. Leach officiating. BROWN, Georgia Louise, 82, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, November 10, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Brown; and is survived by her sister, Maggie R. Mr. Bruce was born April 24, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa. a son of the late William George Bruce and Emily Radcliff Bruce. He was a veteran of World War II. PRITCHETT, Reverend Lawrence Eldridge, of Route 3, Hurt, died Thursday, November 10, 1994, at Lynchburg. He was born in Batesville, on July 12, 1916 and was 78 years of age. He was the son of Mr. Russell Custo Pritchett and Mrs. Eleyette Virginia Irvin Pritchett and was married to Verda S. Pritchett. He was with the Salvation Army as an Officer and The United Methodist Church for approximately 45 years. The Rev. Lawrence Eldridge Pritchett is survived by his wife, Ve rda S. Pritchett, Hurt; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Perdieu, Lynchburg, Mrs. Dorothy Taley, Ashville, N.C.; his stepmother, Mrs. Molly Adock, Charlottesville; one half brother, Mr. Fred Pritchett, Lynchburg; one stepbrother, Mr. Willie Sprouse, Altivista; one stepsister, Mrs. Louise Fitzgerald, Lynchburg; nine stepchildren; 13 nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth M. Pritchett and Dorothy C. Farmer Pritchett. Funeral services for Rev. Lawrence Eldridge Pritchett will be held Sunday, November 13, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Grow, Rev. Carl Douglas and Capt. Michael Hawley conducting the service. Burial will take place in Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. RIVERS, Alwayne Gregory, of Danville, formerly of Christiansburg, died Thursday morning, November 10, 1994, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg. She is survived by two sons, Theodore Franklin Rivers, Virginia Beach, Earl W. Peterson, Hollywood, Fla.; a sister, Lorene Hill, Lakeland, Fla.; two granddaughters locally, Angie Drake and Elizabeth Rivers; a great-granddaughter, Katherine Drake. The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Sunday, November 13 at 3 p.m. at the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Christiansburg. Interment will be Monday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. SCRUGGS, Leona Bradley, 85, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 9, 1994. She was a native of New Castle, Va. Preceding her in death was her husband, William B. Scruggs. She will be lovingly missed by her family. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Scruggs Teigland and Lowell J. Teigland of Roanoke; granddaughter, Catharine Nye Scruggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Burial will be private at Evergreen Cemetery. SPIGLE, Mary Firestone, 91, of Roanoke, died Thursday, November 10, 1994. She was a resident of Friendship Manor after moving from her home near Daleville. She was a retired Botetourt Co. teacher having taught the first grade. She was a member of the Williamson Road Church of the Brethren and had been a member of the Trinity Church of the Brethren, teaching Sunday School and serving as deaconess. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde G. Spigle. She is survived by one son, Frederic Spigle; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Paul Garber all of Daleville; grandchildren, Sam and Jeannie Garber, Kathy and David Austin, Christopher Garber and one great-granddaughter, Mary Hannah Garber; also sisters-in-law, Lois Firestone, Flora Eakle, friends of the Trinity Community, her many friends at Friendship Manor, and the students she taught. A private graveside services was held for the family at the Trinity Cemetery. A memorial services will be held at the Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, Monday, November 14, 1994, 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Moyer officiating.
