Monk-Austin Inc., Farmville, N.C., international leaf tobacco merchant and proposed merger partner with Dibrell Brothers Inc. of Danville, reported a net loss of $4.1 million, equal to 23 cents per share, on revenues of $92.2 million for its first quarter ended Sept. 30. That compared with year-earlier net income of $4.7 million, or 26 cents per share, on revenues of $157.6 million.
Unilever
Unilever, Anglo-Dutch parent of Elizabeth Arden Co. of Roanoke, reported third-quarter net profit of $694 million on sales of $11.65 billion, compared with year-earlier $618 million on sales of $10.65 billion. Per-share earnings were $2.49 against $2.21 based on exchange rates from Dutch guilders and $1.49 against $1.32 based on British pounds. For the nine months, net profit was $1.70 billion on sales of $33.23 billion, compared with year-earlier $1.64 billion on sales of $30.97 billion. Per-share earnings were $6.09 compared with $5.87 based on exchange rates from Dutch guilders and $3.65 against $3.52 based on British pounds.
