SUSPENDED TEENS' PARENTS LOSE APPEAL OF DECISION

The parents of two high school freshmen suspended for bringing a gun to school lost an appeal last week to reinstate their children at the school.

"The School Board upheld the original decision for long-term suspension," said Assistant Superintendent Jim Wheeler on Monday.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, were suspended from Giles High School in late October after bringing a pistol to school. Wheeler said the boys planned to sell the gun, not use it for violence, but the punishment remains the same. They will not be allowed to return to a Giles County school until the fall.

Wheeler said the parents appealed the decision because they wanted their children to be at school. Their only option now, he said, is to seek permission for the teen-agers to attend school out of the county.
