ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The value of building permits issued last month in Roanoke, Salem and Roanoke County was $7,542,530, up 2 percent, or about the rate of inflation, from $7,378,592 in October 1993, but down 40 percent from $12,648,432 in September. About $3.42 million was issued in the county, $2.83 million in Roanoke and $1.28 million in Salem. The locales issued 457 permits in October, down 12 percent from 522 in September but up 16 percent from 392 a year ago.
