VOLUNTEERS TAKE OVER SENIOR REGISTRY

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County has agreed to take over the regular call function of the county's ELDERLY-SINGLES REGISTRY from the Montgomery County Sheriff's office. RSVP Director Vickie Scott said RSVP agreed to take on the responsibility after the sheriff's office found it no longer had the staff to handle the program. RSVP volunteers call each of the approximately 60 people on the registry at least once a week, and more often during severe weather. If they can't reach the individual, they check with friends or family. When all else fails, the sheriff's office follows up.

Scott says additional volunteers are needed, and points out that the program gives even the homebound or those without transportation a chance to help out.

For more information, or to be listed in the Elderly-Singles Registry, call RSVP, 382-5775.
