CASTLEWOOD ADVANCES

Shannon Casteel scored 28 points, made four 3-pointers and had seven assists as Castlewood beat Fort Chiswell 65-43 Tuesday night in the first round of the Region C girls' basketball tournament.

The Blue Devils led by 15 points at halftime and held off the Pioneers in the final two quarters. Fort Chiswell never got closer than nine points in the second half.

Trish Stuart scored 12 points and Jenny Porter added 10 for the Pioneers, the Mountain Empire District's second seed.

Castlewood (21-3) plays the Auburn-Glenvar winner in a Region C semifinal Thursday at 8 p.m. at John Battle High School.
