PARRY MCCLUER OUSTED

Tammy Cox scored a game-high 24 points - including the 1,000th of her career - in leading Galax past Parry McCluer 53-28 on Tuesday night in the first round of the Region C girls' basketball tournament.

Galax, the Mountain Empire District regular-season and tournament champion, trailed 10-9 after one quarter, but Cox rallied the Tide in the second.

Galax held Parry McCluer to eight second-half points. Crystal Humphries scored 12 for the Fighting Blues, the No.2 team from the Pioneer District.

Galax plays Floyd County in a Region C semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at John Battle High School.
