CARROLL CO. OUSTED IN REGION IV

Richlands broke open a close game in the third quarter, then held on to beat Carroll County 63-56 in a Region IV high school girls' basketball tournament first-round game Tuesday night.

The Blue Tornado took an 11-point lead late in the third quarter, but the Cavaliers, the No. 2 team from the New River District, pulled within three with less than a minute remaining in the game.

Carroll County missed a shot, then was was forced to foul with 30 seconds to play.

Tina Clontz led Carroll (15-10) with 10 points. Christie Bennette led Richlands (22-1), the Southwest District champ, with 19 points.
