Crime prevention

PULASKI - The Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce will hold a small business seminar on crime prevention during the holidays Nov. 29 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Pulaski Community Hospital Education Building.

Dennis DuBuc, director of the administration of justice program at New River Community College is the featured speaker.

The reservation deadline is Tuesday. Admission is free.

Virginia exports

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech will help the Virginia Department of Economic Development to implement a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to expand Virginia export development efforts in Eastern Europe.

The $144,440 grant will be used primarily to stimulate small business participation at trade and catalog shows in Eastern Europe and in the Virginia Department of Economic Development's International Market Planning Program.

Financial Women

BLACKSBURG - The New River Valley Chapter of Financial Women

International will hold its monthly meeting this evening at the Roanoke Holiday Inn Tanglewood.

Members of the Central Virginia Chapter will also attend the meeting.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m.

Gloria "Bunny" Abel, state president of the organization, will be the featured speaker.

Masonry awards

RICHMOND - The Southwest Chapter of the Virginia Masonry Council/Masonry Contractors Association recognized three area architectural firms with 1994 President's Awards for Outstanding Masonry Design.

Mills, Oliver & Webb of Blacksburg won in the commercial/industrial division for its design for Tetra in the Blacksburg Industrial Park. Martin & Company of Radford won in the religious construction division for its work for St. Jude Catholic Church in Radford. Draper Aden Associates won in the landscape construction division for work on a lake residence.

Retail award

RADFORD - Central Lumber Co. of Radford received Ace Hardware's High Performance Retail Award at the company's recent convention in New Orleans.

Only 86 of more than 5,000 Ace Hardware stores were honored with the award.

QVC broadcast

RICHMOND - The QVC television shopping network will feature Virginia businesses and broadcast from the College of William and Mary campus in Williamsburg on February 18.

The two-hour live broadcast will feature products in six categories: housewares and home furnishings, automotive supplies, gourmet foods and beverages, jewelry, health, fitness and beauty products and apparel and accessories.

A team of QVC buyers will meet with vendors at a exposition at Richmond Centre Dec. 7 and 8.
