RECYCLING CENTER OK'D, WITH CONDITIONS

Town Council approved a new recycling center on North Franklin Street on Tuesday, but imposed a series of conditions on it intended to ensure cleanliness and a good appearance.

Bob's Refuse Service at 300 North Franklin St. may operate a recycling center, but only if it is conducted indoors; if the collection bins are emptied each day and constructed of durable, visually pleasing materials; and if odors and pests are controlled.

Council also required members review the permit within a year, and that Bobby Underwood, the owner, file a plan of operation.

In other business, council approved a subdivision in the town's industrial park, at the request of a potential buyer. Town Manager John Lemley would not reveal the buyer.

Lemley reported that a October study for a traffic light at North Franklin Street and Independence Boulevard showed that not enough vehicles use the intersection to merit a traffic light. Nearby residents had requested the study because the road leads to the high school and Vista Via residential area.
