COBB, James, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 1994. He retired from Hollins College, where he worked as the Groundskeeper. Survivors include his wife, Laura A. Cobb; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Jackson, Roanoke; four stepdaughters, Evelyn Ramey, Lee Morris, Betty Patterson, all of Roanoke, Mary Wright, Hollins; two grandchildren, Angela and Troy Paschal, Ronaoke; three great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hollins. Rev. Charles Calloway will officiate with interment in the church cemetery. CORDER, Gary Stickley Sr., 60, of Radford, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994 at Radford Community Hospital. He was retired from New River Industries in Radford. He is survived by his wife, Mildred R. Corder of Radford; three daughters, Deborrah Corder Keller of Staunton, Elizabeth Corder Roberts of Atkins, Va., and Rebecca Corder Davis of Bland, Va.; two sons, Gary S. Corder Jr., of Radford; and Timothy ``Philip'' Corder of Christiansburg; mother, Daisy S. Corder of Radford; one brother, Walter D. Corder Jr., Morehead City, N.C.; sister, Judy Corder Roseberry of Durham, N.C.; also survived by his four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 1994 at 11 a.m. from the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford with Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. FARRIS, Selma Peeks, 86, of Greenville, Tenn., formerly of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Farris was born in Elizabethton, Tenn. on July 2, 1908, a daughter of the late Jerry Edward and Roda Miller Peeks. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Preston Farris. She is survived by two sisters, Ada Turner, Greenville, Tenn., and Mattie Mitchener of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 1994, in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg, Va., with the Rev. Mark Christian officiating. FOLEY, Franklin Joseph Sr., 67, of Kings Grant in Martinsville, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994, in the Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Patrick County to the late J.F. (Boss) Foley and the late Vada Sawyers Foley and was the husband of the late Anne Kahle Foley who died in 1985. Mr. Foley live and worked in Roanoke for several years, he retired from American Furniture Co. in Martinsville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Fackler of Bassett; a son, Frank J. Foley Jr. of Collinsville; six sisters, Odean Thomas, Pauline Foley, Allene Foley, and Nannie Bett Martin, all of the Stuart area, Geraldine Thomas of Woolwine, and Brenda Adams of Ferrum; three brothers, Alvis, Grady and Lewis Foley of Stuart; three grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Foley will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stua rt with burial in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 8:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

GRIFFITH, William Dean, 48, of Riner, died Tuesday, November 15, 1994, in Lewis-Gale hospital in Salem following a six month battle with cancer. Dean was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and is survived by his wife, Barbara Thompson Griffith; two sons, Eric Dean Griffith and Brian Curtis Griffith; his mother, Esther Duncan Griffith, Christiansburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Lee Cole of Pilot; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Selena Griffith, Mattoon, Il; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ward G. and Madeline S. Thompson, Riner; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel G. and Nancy W. Thompson, Roanoke; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma S. and William P. Mitchell, Pauline Griffith, all of Christiansburg and a special friend, William (Bill) Palmer, Christiansburg; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Griffith, Decatur, Il and a brother, Donald C. Griffith, Christiansburg. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, 1994, from the Christiansburg Church of the Brethen, conducted by Pastor Donald B. Peters with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. HOWARD, Nina Vandergrift, 82, of 1812 Monta Vista Drive, Pulaski, died Wednesday morning, November 16, 1994, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Pulaski, Virginia, on May 23, 1912, and was the daughter of the late Robert Kirkner and Lula Vandergrift Kirkner. She was a member of the Harlan Christian Church, Harlan, Ky., and the First Christian Church, Pulaski. She was preceded in death by her husb and, Arnett M. Howard, and by nine brothers and sisters, Arthur Kirkner, Gaynell Kirkner Sowers, Ellen Kegley Thompson, Albert Kirkner, Louise Kirkner Byrd, Robert Kirkner, Cecil Bosand, Bill Bosang, and Kendell Kirkner. Surviving are a special niece, Janet Cox; other nieces and nephews, Steve Kirkner, Katherine Clark, Teena Harrington, Betty Parham, John S. Osborne, Helen Pritchard, John Sowers, Neal Kegley, Erline Lester, Roger Kegley, Doris Flick, Jean Newman, Barbara Montcith, French (Butch) Kegley, Norman Byrd, Lloyd Byrd, Jim Byrd, Albert Kirkner, Bobbie Jean Dalton and Buddy Kirkner. KITCHEL, Marguerite Blackketter, 82, of 1609 Mulberry Rd., Martinsville, Va. died Wednesday, November 16, 1994, at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry Co. She married Frank B. Kitchel on December 24, 1939 and was born in Logansport on March 23, 1912 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Blackketter. Mrs. Kitchel loved music and was a dedicated teacher. She taught high school music in Indiana and grade school music in Chattanooga, Tenn. She served as organist at Starling Ave. Baptist Church and Youth Choir Director at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church where she and her family have been members for forty years. She gave private piano lesson for fifty years. She ended he professional career teaching first and second grade at Mt. Olivert School in Henry Co. Surviving are her husband, Frank B. Kitchel of the home; daughter, Suzanne Ogle, Bozeman, Montana; son, William F. Kitchel, Appomattox, Va.; eight grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David A. Raguemore. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at McKee Funeral Home. MOORE, Margaret Bell, 92, of Lexington, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994 at her home at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Stuarts Draft, Va. Born July 24, 1902 in Rockbridge Co., she was the daughter of the late William Nelson Bell and Sally Wilson Bell of the Oxford Community of Rockbridge Co. Mrs. Moore was educated in the Roanoke School System and received her teaching certificate from Harrisonburg State Teachers College (James Madison). Her early years were spent teaching at the old Timber Ridge School and Ruffner School. She was the oldest member of Timber Ridge (Old Stone) Presbyterian Church, being a member for over sixty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Chambers Moore and a son, Samuel Bell Moore. Surviving are one daughter, Betty Anne Ferguson, Springfield; three sons, William Thomas Moore, Street, Md., John Scott Moore, Lexington, Robert Dunlap Moore, Lexington; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Samuel Bell Moore, Harrisonburg; special friend, Bessie Monroe, Lexington; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 19, 1994, at 11 a.m. at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Malcolm officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge ARP Cemetery. She is survived by two grandchildren, Candi Miller and Gary Miller, both of Barrington, Ill.; several nieces and nephews including Geraldine Jones of Sarasota, Fla. WILSON, Troy Leon, 90, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994, in a local hospital after retirement as Branch Manager of Sales for Lance Inc. He was manager of the Carlton Terrace office building for ten years. Mr. Wilson taught Distributive Education classes at several local high schools and also taught the Dale Carnegie course and Adventures in Attitudes. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was a member of Toast Masters and The Blue Ridge Speakers Club. He did volunteer work as Richmond District Score Representative for the Small Business Administration and was a Master Gardener. He was a faithful member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Sims Wilson. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Dillard Richards Wilson; a daughter, Gail Wilson Davis, Richmond; granddaughter, Allyson Moorefield, Richmond; stepsons, William K. Lancaster, Jr., Miami, Fla., Charles H. Richards, Jr., Boones Mill, Va.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Ann R. Horchler, Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Ryan, Indianopolis, Ind.; stepgrandchildren, William Lancaster II, Georgia, Cindy Nathan, Georgia, Linda Lancaster, Miami, Fla. and Douglas Charles Horchler, Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers-in-law, Thomas P. WOODS, Garfield L., 73, of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, November 14, 1994, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born in Vinton, Va. and later moved with his family to Roanoke. Moved to Alliance, Ohio in the late 60's and in 1964 met his present wife, Mary C. (Wallace) Smith and was married in 1966. He was employed with the American Steel Foundries as a chipper ``A.'' On his retirement in 1983 He and his wife moved to her home in Columbus. An associate member of Asbury North U. M.C., Richard A. Dunbar, Pastor. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Beulah Davis Woods; brother, Jonathan Woods and sister, Camplean Baxter. Garfield leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Mary C. Woods; daughter, Patricia A. (Alvin) Edwards of Mitchellville, Md.; son, James L. Woods of Minneapolis, Minn.; stepdaughter, Barbara G. (Ronald) Ballen of Danbury, Conn.; stepson, Darryl (Joy) Smith of Washington, D.C.; brother, McCarthy Woods; brother-in-law, Lawrence Baxter both of Roanoke, Va.; nine grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, devoted friends and neighbors.
