SANTA TRAIN TO MAKE ANNUAL RUN

The Santa Train Special makes its 52nd annual run Saturday through the coalfields of southwest Virginia and eastern Kentucky.

The train will be loaded with 12 tons of candy, toys, school supplies, stuffed animals and other items when it leaves Kingsport on Friday for Pikeville, Ky. On Saturday morning, the train will leave Kentucky and make the 110-mile trip back to Kingsport.

By the time it finishes its journey, it will be nearly empty. The goodies are distributed to the thousands of people who wait for the train to pass near their homes or meet it at its several stops.

The trip is sponsored by the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce and CSX Transportation.

The train stops briefly in the Virginia towns of Fremont, Dante, St. Paul, Dungannon, Speers Ferry and Waycross.
