LEATH, William H., better known as Hassell, of Route 5, Galax, passed away Thursday, November 17, 1994 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Leath was born December 20, 1925 in Grayson County to John Wayne Leath and Mallie Dillon Leath. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Leath, Galax; two daughters, Georgia Hooven, Galax, Peggy Cole, Sumter, S.C.; two sons, Randy Leath, Galax, Larry Leath, Ennice, N.C.; one brother, Otie Leath, Galax; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 20, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel, with Nelson Gallimore and Winfred Bowers officiating. Interment will be in the Monta Vista Memory Gardens, Galax, Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
LINK, Corrie Stone, 89, of Memphis, Tenn. died Thursday, November 17, 1994, of congestive heart failure. She was born October 8, 1905, in Slayden Mississippi. Married Frank G. Link in 1929, and was his partner in their Photography Studio Business in Memphis, Tennessee until their retirement in 1952. After Retirement they made their home at Natural Bridge, Va. until 1991 when they returned to Memphis. Corrie was a member of First Baptist Church in Memphis but attended Falling Springs Presbyterian Church in Virginia with her husband. She is survived by her husband, Frank G. Link; her daughter, Dorothy L. Wilkerson,; a grandson, Link Sides all of Memphis and a second grandson, Hampton Sides and one great-grandson of Santa Fe, NM and by one sister , Inez Coen of Slayden, Mississippi. Funeral services are to be at the graveside in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery Lexington, Va. on Monday, November 21, 1994, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lee V. Ruckman officiating. MALCOLM, Harold Doster, 74, of Roanoke, Virginia, died on Thursday, November 17, 1994, at Roanoke Memorial Hosptial. He was born June 1, 1920 in Monroe, Georgia to Elizabeth and George Malcom. He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Marsha T. Malcom. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Jack E. Malcom of Thomson, Ga. and Hubert Malcom of Greenwood, S. C. A sister, Mary Reese of Thomson, Georgia. Also several nieces and nephew, Donna Malcom, Pam Malcom, Jack Malcom, Jr. and Teresa Petticini. He retired in 1971 from the U. S. Navy with 30 years service, having received 9 campaign medals in World War II. He was a member of American Lodge #98, AF & AM in Ridgeland, S.C. Scottish Rite consistory Valley of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. He was a 32 years member of Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston, South Carolina. A past patron of Mary Haywood Chapter #124 Order of the Eastern Star in Ridgeland, South Carolina. In 1974 he was named to the State of South Carolina's Who's Who List for organizing and forming the first Volunteer Fire Department in Coosawatchie, South Carolina. Until his retirement in July 1, 1994, he was President of Malcom Landscape Service in Roanoke, Virginia. He worked 15 years with Carilion Health Systems, serving as its Chief Designer and Planner of all landscape services. Friends may call at Oakey's Downtown Chapel on Friday, November 18, 1994 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 19, 1994, from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19, 1994, 6 p.m. at Oakey's Downtown Chapel. McCORMICK, Helen Smiley, 77, of Buena Vista, formerly of Lexington, died Friday, November 18, 1994, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born September 6, 1917, in Augusta Co. she was the daughter of the late Walker and Esteline Smiley. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and of the Loving Rebekah Lodge #74. Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Lee McCormick. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Slough, Buena Vista, Sharon Agee, Penhook; three sisters, Gladys Fitzgerald, Staunton, Clara Richie, Raphine, Ruby Smiley, Spotswood; two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Shafer, Buena Vista, Jesse Darrell Sorrells, Vinton; also two great-grandchildren. MORGAN, Fred Bennett, 82, of Virginia Beach, Va. and formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, November 17, 1994, in a Rockville, Md. hospital. He was born to Grover C. and Mary Tuck Morgan in Stone Mountain, Va. Mr. Morgan began a 43 year career in Roanoke with the American Viscose Corporation which was later acquired by FMC. In 1972, he retired from the FMC Philadelphia headquarters. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He is remembered for his devotion to his loving wife, Irene; his love of golf and working outdoors; and being there for his family whenever needed.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Bandy Morgan, V irginia Beach; two daughters, Judy M. Myer of Darnestown, Md., Susan Sieg Wilson of Virginia Beach; one sister, Ethel Mohler, Salem, Va.; two brothers, Joseph A. Morgan, Charlotte, N.C., James E. Morgan, Roanoke; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation, P. O. Box 5, Norfolk, Va. 23501-0005. SEMONES, James Guy, 96, of Wytheville, died Thursday, November 17, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Floyd County, the son of the late George W. and Laura Ellen Mabe Semones. He was a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway with 40 year services and a rural carrier of the Southwest Va enterprise. He was a member of the Wytheville Church of God Prophecy and preceded in death by a son, Jack W. Semones. He is survived by his wife, Ella Jane Williams Semones of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Louise Semones of Etowah, N.C., Jerry and Delores Semones of Jar ratt, Va.; nine grandchildren, Steven Semones, Stanford Semones, Katrina Semones, Angela Adams, Sarah Semones, Mary Pratt, David G.
