CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg Wal-Mart will donate a percentage of its profits on sales made between 7 a.m. and noon today to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the New River Valley.
This is the fourth year Wal-Mart will donate a percentage of holiday sales to local charities.
Libraries taking food, not fines
CHRISTIANSBURG - Two area libraries have announced amnesty programs to accept boxed, canned, non-perishable, unopened food items in lieu of overdue fines. The program is in effect during November and December at all Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library branches, and from Monday to Dec. 30 at Radford Public Library, 30 First St. Donated goods will be distributed within in each community.
Library patrons are urged to return all overdue materials during the amnesty period.

Gym, swimming holiday schedules
BLACKSBURG - Blacksburg Community Center, Kipps Gymnasium and the Aquatic Center announce their Thanksgiving holiday schedule as follows:
Wednesday - Kipps, 2-10 p.m.; Blacksburg Community Center, 8 a.m-10 p.m.; Aquatic Center, 6 a.m-9 p.m.
Thursday - all facilities closed.
Friday - Kipps and Community Center, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Aquatic Center, 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Office's at the Community and Aquatic centers are closed.
Saturday, Nov. 26 - Kipps and Community Center, noon-6 p.m.; Aquatic Center, 9 a.m-6 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 27 - all facilities, 1-6 p.m.
Montgomery gets emergency funds
CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery County has been selected by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to receive $22,798 in federal funds to supplement its emergency food and shelter programs. The program is managed locally by the United Way of Montgomery County and Radford.
A local board with representatives from the United Way, Montgomery County, Red Cross, New River Community Action and other community and religious organizations will determine how the funds are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local agencies in the county.
Eligible local government or private voluntary organizations must be non-profit, nondiscriminatory organizations with demonstrated capability to deliver emergency food and or shelter programs in Montgomery County. The application deadline is Nov. 18.
