BROWN, Kelly, 81, of Shawsville, died Thursday, November 17, 1994 at his home. A graveside service was 1 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 1994 in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. Horne. Arrangements by Richardson-Horne, Christiansburg.

CLINE, Eli Jackson, 77, of Wytheville, Va. died Saturday, November 19, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Thomas Price and Bertie Austin Cline. He was retired from the Appalachian Power Company after many years service and was a member of the Wytheville Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen McAllister Cline. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Robert Peirce Jaeger of Salem, Va.; three grandchildren, Robert Peirce Jaeger II, Lawson Andrew Jaeger, Jane Brooke Jaeger; special friend, Evelyn D. Jackson of Wytheville, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 21, 1994, 2 p.m. at the West End Cemetery with the Rev. Laurie McAlpine officiating. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Wytheville Fire Department of St. John's Episcopal Church. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.

DOWDY, Gilmer Eugene, Sr., 70, of Pembroke, died Friday, November 18, 1994, at the Medical College of Virginia, following a long illness. He was born in Giles County. He was a son of the late William Clayton and Bessie Mae Dowdy. He was a retired employee of Reynolds Metals Co. in Richmond, a veteran of the U.S. Army, WW II, attended High Street Methodist Church and was baptized into the First Church of God. Surviving are his wife Elvin Langford Dowdy, Dinwiddie; four sons, Gilmer Dowdy Jr., Donald Wayne Dowdy, James C. (``Jim"") Dowdy and Steve Dowdy, all of Richmond; a daughter, Sylvia Pell, Richmond; a stepdaughter, Patie Lamm, Dinwiddie; one sister, Mary Howe Dowdy, Pembroke; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dowdy Family Cemetery on Doe Creek Rd. at Hoges Chapel near Pembroke, Va. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home Pembroke Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

GOODE, Lloyd Othneil Sr., (``Buzzy""), 86, of Bedford, died Saturday, November 19, 1994 at his residence. He was born in Bedford County on September 21, 1908, a son of the late Levin Onan Goode and Pearl Roberts Goode. Buzzy was owner and operator of Goode's Sporting Goods and Shoe Repair, and was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold M. Goode, and one sister, Marion G. Meador. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Goode, one son, Lloyd O. Goode Jr., Raleigh, N. C.; one daughter, Cecelia Goode Klink, Gloucester, Va.; two grandsons, Robert W. Klink Jr., Falls Church, Jason L. Klink, Williamsburg. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 21, 1994 at the Bedford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles T. Dorman officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. HANCOCK, Garnett Edgar, 74, of Fries, died Saturday, November 19, 1994. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Chapel, Galax.

JAMISON, Lewis Edward, 80, of Route 4, Rocky Mount, died Friday, November 18, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital following a brief illness. He was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren and was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad after 271/2 years service. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Gladys Webb Jamison; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Daphne Jamison, Smith Mountain Lake, Jerry and Jean Jamison, Roanoke, L. E. and Serena Jamison, Rocky Mount; six grandchildren, Jared Jamison, Keith Jamison, Duncan Jamison, Sterling Jamison, Jessica Jamison, Lee Edward Jamison. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted from Antioch Church of the Brethren, 11 a.m. Monday with Pastors Gerald and Rebecca Baile Crouse officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. JONES, Mrs. Magnolia Williams, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, November 17, 1994 in a local hospital. Survivors include one brother, Roger (Betty) Williams, Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law, Doretha Harris; niece, Izetta Wright, both of Roanoke; several great-nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. LESLIE, Ulyses Canasta, 74, of Melrose Towers, Roanoke, departed this life on Wednesday, November 16, 1994. He was a retired Electric Motor Mechanic from the Frankworth Motors in New York City. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Leslie, Roanoke; one son, Lewis Kyle, Queens, N.Y.; one sister, Ruby Burton, Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, William Bradshaw, Dearing, Ga.; two nieces and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 1994, 11 a.m, at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating and burial in Williams Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williams Memorial Baptist Church in memory of Ulyses Leslie. LINKOUS, Edgar Randolph, 62, of Christiansburg, died Friday, November 18, 1994. Surviving are his wife, Mary Linkous; four children and a daughter-in-law, James and Diane Linkous, Debbie Linkous, Phillip Linkous, Angela Linkous, all of Christiansburg; a grandson, James Randolph Linkous; a brother, Harry Linkous, Christiansburg; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Linkous. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Everette Shepherd, with burial in the family cemetery near Blacksburg. MACKLIN, Theodore Wilson Sr., 92, of Roanoke, passed away in a local hospital on Friday, November 18, 1994. He was well-known as as a musician for many years in this area. He was a native Roanoker who, after completing high school in this area, went to Virginia State College, and later studied at the Julliard Conservatory of Music. He has been singing with quartets and involved in music groups for more than sixty years. A member of the Sweet Union Baptist Church, he served as organist and choir director for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Macklin, who was also his colleague in music. One son, Theodore Macklin Jr., of Detroit, Mich., also precede d him in death. Survivors include his devoted wife, who cared for him lovingly and tenderly, Mrs. Alice Deane Macklin; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Macklin (Buford) Motley, all of Roanoke; two sons, Robert E. (Lorraine) Macklin Sr., Roanoke and Harold A. (Thelma) Deane, Petersburg; brother, Albert N. (Elizabeth) Macklin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Agee Macklin, Detroit, Mich.; sister-in-law, Hortense Macklin, Petersburg; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. MILLER, Clarence Alexander Jr., (``Sonny""), 57, of Lexington, died Friday, November 18, 1994 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born in Rockbridge Co., May 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Clarence A. Miller Sr. and Ethel Virginia Huffman Miller. Mr. Miller was a Security Guard at Washington & Lee University and was a member of Lauderdale A.R.P. Church. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Lucille Harris Miller, Lexington; daughter, Kay Miller, Lexington; two sisters, Irene Johnston, Lexington, Barbara Powell, Buchanan; sister-in-law, Mamie Miller, Lexington; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 21, 1994 at 2 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Zeb Carson Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeral Home.

MORGAN, Miss Mary Pearl, 88, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 18, 1994, in a local hospital. She was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church and retired from the American Viscose. Surviving are her sisters, Lillian H. Morgan and Dorothy M. Claytor, both of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Pauline R. Morgan, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at noon Monday with the Rev. Charles S. Hoffler officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel.

MURRAY, Esterleen Powell, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, November 18, 1994. She is in peace now in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monsey G. (Arthur) Murray and a son, Herbert E. Cundiff. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Myrtle H. Cundiff; granddaughter and her husband, Jeanie C. and Richard H. Hendrick; a precious special great-grandson, Matthew Hendrick; a sister, Zedie Powell Chittum; an aunt, Mary Johnson Perdue; and several nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Garden City Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 21, 1994 at Sherwood Memorial Park by the Rev. David Bailey. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Lotz Salem Chapel. A special thanks to all the people who provided excellent health care at the Roanoke City Nursing Home. SCOTT, Marion Edward, (``Ned""), 68, of Fincastle, died Saturday, November 19, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Lura Wilhelm Scott, one brother, Elwood Scott, and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Morris ``Nancy"" Campbell, Mint Springs; one brother, Everett Scott, Eagle Rock. SPURLIN, Rachel Givens, 102, of Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville, and formerly of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, November 16, 1994, at her residence. Rachel was born October 13, 1892, in Galax, the fifth of ten children born to Frank Mason and Augusta Etter Givens. In 1905, when Rachel was a teenager, her father died suddenly, and through struggling to care for her mother and younger sisters, and helping her older siblings, she began to manifest a wisdom, sereneness of soul, and certitude of Christian faith which she shined like a beacon throughout her life to all who knew her. She attended Hiwassee College and began a teaching career in Grayson County, during the second decade in this century. In 1919, she married Rev. J. C. Spurlin. On June 12, 1921, a beloved daughter named Edna Ruth was born. On June 8, 1922, Ruth died. For 38 years from 1919-1957 Rachel continued to teach and helped her husband minister to various Methodist church communities in the Holston Conference. In 1957, she retired with the Rev. Spurlin to Rural Retreat, Va., where they continued to be very active in the local church community., until moving to Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, in 1983. Rev. Spurlin died in January of 1984. She is survived by her nephews, Paul and Joe Givens of Colorado, Calvin Matheny of Atlanta, Ga., and David Riley of Roanoke; also surviving are two great-nieces, Beth Matheny and Karen Shinn, both of Fresno, Calif. Funeral services were held Friday, November 18, 1994, at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Buford W. Hankins officiating. Interment followed in the Holston Methodist Conference Cemetery in Emory, Va. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

STUMP, Ennis, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, November 19, 1994 at his home. He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired employee of Graves-Humphries Hardware. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lillie Mae Stump; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Norman Blankenship, Mary and John Maynard, all of Roanoke, Susan Hobbs, Cathy and Curtis Walker, all of Vinton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Whitehead, Roanoke Co., Zora Elmore, Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

TARTER, Chloe Mae Coldiron, 83, of Holston Road, Wytheville, died Saturday, November 19, 1994 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Tarter. She is survived by one daughter, Marsha Peters of Moneta; one son and daughter-in-law, C. D. and Sandy Tarter of Wytheville; one sister, Gray Orr of Wytheville; one brother, Robert Coldiron of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held Monday, November 21, 1994 in the West End Cemetery, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Charles Burnett officiating. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wythe County Rescue Squad.
