GOODVIEW MAN REPORTS ROBBERY

A Goodview man told Roanoke police he was shot in the shoulder while being robbed Friday night.

Johnny W. Rhoton, 33, told police he was riding in a car when the driver, an acquaintance, pulled over on Lawnhill Street. The driver told Rhoton he would have to ride with the driver's cousin because the driver had business to take care of, according to a police report.

Rhoton said when he got into the cousin's car, which had pulled up behind him, the cousin pulled a semiautomatic pistol out and demanded money. The cousin then struck Rhoton across one eye with the pistol, which accidentally went off, shooting Rhoton in the left shoulder, Rhoton said.

Rhoton said $200 was taken from him. He was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and released, said Detective J.A. Edmondson. Rhoton told police he had only known the first driver for a few weeks and only by first name. Edmondson would not release that name.
