MILLS NAMED INTERIM AD

Roanoke native and Virginia Tech alumnus Lewis Mills, director of development for athletics at Western Kentucky University, was named Monday as the Hilltoppers' interim athletic director.

Mills replaces Jim Richards, 57, who said he was stepping down as Western Kentucky's athletic director because his retirement benefits would be nearly as good as his current salary. Mills is a former head basketball coach at Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth, and a past VCU athletic director.

A search has begun for Richards' successor.
