Contract awarded for giant TV screens
The Hotel Roanoke Conference Center Commission on Monday awarded a contract for giant television screens and related equipment to a Winston-Salem, N.C., communications equipment company.
Long Communications Group's bid of $102,654 was the lowest of four received for the TV hardware. The contract calls for installation of two rear-projection television screens in the conference center's main lecture hall, plus audio equipment and a videocassette recorder.
With the screens and a related satellite hookup, conferees will be able to sit in on lectures beamed to Roanoke from other places in the country or world. A separate contract for the satellite downlink was awarded last week.
The contract calls for installation by March 1, about a month before the hotel and center are scheduled to open.
