Decking the mall with meows and collies, owners brought their pets Monday to the New River Valley Mall's annual picture night with Santa Claus. "He's like our child," said Jenny Dulaney of Christiansburg about Petie the poodle. "He has a stocking, too." Becky Strough of Fairlawn said her cat, Bailey, asked St. Nick for three boxes of treats and a new sweater to lie on. Santa said there are easier nights: "Don't get me wrong, I love dogs. But I prefer kids. You can talk to them." Also, most kids are housebroken.
