UVA WOMEN'S TOP RECRUIT OUT OF LINEUP

Monick Foote, the most highly regarded women's basketball recruit in this year's freshman class at Virginia, has been declared academically ineligible for the rest of the fall semester.

Foote, a power forward, fell below the required number of credit hours and will not practice with the team or play in the first seven games, the school announced Tuesday. She is expected to rejoin the Cavaliers when they face Radford in Charlottesville on Dec.20. Eighth-ranked UVa opens its season Friday against No.16 Kansas in Hawaii.

Don Easterling, who had won 16 Atlantic Coast Conference titles since 1970, retired as the North Carolina State swimming coach. Easterling won 14 men's and two women's crowns since taking over the Wolfpack program in 1970. He coached 61 All-Americans, and swimmers won 14 NCAA crowns under his guidance.
