PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS DAVID I. HUNTER, a 1979 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, recently completed operations off the coast of Haiti aboard the USS America.

PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS MICHAEL A. MILLER, son of Johnny R. and Ruth A. Miller of Roanoke, recently completed operations off the coast of Haiti aboard the USS America.

He is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

NAVY AIRMAN WILLIAM A. FOLEY, son of Stanley B. and Darlene R. Foley of Troutville, recently returned form operations off the coast of Haiti aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS DONALD W. PARKER has been assigned to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Fort McHenry.

Parker is a 1980 graduate of William Fleming High School.

MARINE PFC. MICHAEL L. SMITH, son of Carolyn Candiff of 29 Benbrook Circle, recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.

Smith is a 1993 graduate of William Fleming High School.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DAVID W. DUNBAR, son of David W. Dunbar Jr. of Fincastle, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Dunbar is a 1994 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

PETTY OFFICER THIRD CLASS MATTHEW BEARD, son of Marshall and Nancy Beard of Roanoke, recently graduated from the AEGIS Training Center at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren.

Beard, a 1990 graduate of Northside High School, was second in his class and named honor graduate. Beard is a fire controlman and is stationed at Pearl Harbor.

MARY VIRGINIA HARRIS, daughter of Patricia Harris and the late Norman L. Harris of Cloverdale, has joined the Peace Corps and is now serving in Botswana, Africa.

Harris will be teaching science and biology for the next two years.

She is a 1990 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and a 1994 graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science degree.

Franklin of Roanoke; Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian W. Hall, son of Ben A. and Sandra W. Hall of Roanoke; Airman Apprentice Brian D. Mann, son of Laurel M. Williams of Roanoke; and Airman Timothy J. Sherman, son of Gary L. Sherman of Vinton.
