The Roanoke City Fire Fighters Association Local 1132 recently raised $2,100 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at the fifth annual Fall MDA Golf Tournament.
Proceeds will be used to provide services to Southwest and Central Virginia families with one of the 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA.
United Way minority program graduates
The United Way of Roanoke Valley has announced the names of the graduates from its 1994 Minority Leadership Enhancement Program.
The graduates are: Freelya Phillips, Doris Jones, Rosalie Sanchez-Motley, Chenise Anderson, Eva Miller, Linda Webb, Janet Clement, Donna Clayton, Laveeta Howe, Jeanette Warrington, Lew Thompson, Wanda Spraggins, Gary Lewis, Juan Motley, James Starke, Henry Hale, Clyde Clark, Chuck Smith, Anthony Reed and Sherman Holland.
State arthritis group honors Roanoker
Jeanette Stockli recently received the distinguished service award given by the Virginia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
Stockli, who has arthritis, has led the Roanoke Arthritis Support Group for seven years.
Jaycees Cherub Tree at Tanglewood Mall
The Roanoke Jaycees is sponsoring its eighth annual Cherub Tree at Tanglewood Mall. The tree is located in the food court on the second floor.
Sponsors are asked to select a cherub with a wish list and return the gifts to the tree by Dec. 12.

Operation Santa Claus needs donations, gifts
The Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley has begun its annual Operation Santa Claus.
This program supplies gifts for nearly 700 Roanoke Valley residents with mental disabilities who live in area homes for adults or are patients at Catawba Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center.
Contributors may send cash donations by Dec. 9 to the association at P.O. Box 592, Roanoke, 24004. Make checks payable to the Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley.
