The fire started near electrical equipment at the rear of the clinic, which was on loan to the school from the state Health Department. The mobile unit is used to provide dental care for children whose families cannot afford to pay for it.
Penny Firestone, the firefighter in charge at the scene, said the unit's contents sustained smoke, heat and water damage. While the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical, firefighters were sifting through the rubble to determine its exact origin.
No children or school personnel were in the clinic at the time of the fire. Students were on buses leaving the school when firetrucks arrived.
