PARADES GALORE FOR THE HOLIDAY-SPIRITED

Come out and watch as those faithful to the spirit of Christmas deck the streets of the New River Valley with bands, floats and carolers in this year's round of holiday parades.

Pulaski

The Pulaski County Jaycees will explore "The Meaning of Christmas" in their first night parade since 1974 Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7.

Judges will award three prizes in each of the four float categories: adult, youth, commercial and mini-float (non-motorized).

The Jaycees are accepting financial assistance from local organizations. Checks marked for the christmas parade and made payable to the Pulaski County Jaycees may be mailed to: P.O. Box 1617, Pulaski, Va. 24301.

To register to participate in the parade, call the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, 980-1991.

The registration deadline is Saturday.

Blacksburg

Enjoy "The Wonder of Christmas" Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. as Blacksburg's Christmas Parade marches from The Virginia Tech Commuter Lot to Blacksburg Middle School.

The Town of Blacksburg's Department Parks and Recreation and Circle K will sponsor the parade that includes floats, horses, antique cars, caroling groups and marching bands. After the event, Santa and the Blacksburg Community Band will entertain at the North Main Street Post Office lot.

To register call Randy Hall, community programs supervisor at 961-1135 or stop by at the department's offices at 725 Patrick Henry Drive by Tuesday, Nov. 29.

If cancelled for rain, the parade will be rescheduled for Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. and will follow a different route.

Radford

The Radford Kiwanis Club's Christmas Parade will spread "Peace on Earth" Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. along Norwood and First streets from the Dedmon Center to Central Lumber.

To register for the parade, pick up an application at the Main Street office, 1126 Norwood St. Return the applications to: The Kiwanis Club of Radford, P.O. Box 594, Radford, Va. 24141.

Christiansburg

The Christiansburg Jaycees Christmas Parade will honor each of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Roanoke and Main streets end at corner of Radford and College streets.

Prizes will be awarded in the church and civic float divisions and in the band competition.

Bring along canned food to drop off in the police station lot at the parade's start to be distributed to the food bank.

Handicapped parking will be provided in the Revco parking lot off Main Street.

Registration forms are available at the Christiansburg Chamber of Commerce. Return the forms to Ellen Lamb, in care of: Christiansburg Jaycees, P.O. Box 2325, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.

Pearisburg

Experience "Christmas Beneath the Stars" in Pearisburg Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. beginning at the the intersection of Tazewell and Wenonah avenues.

Children will have a chance to sip hot cocoa with Santa and listen to the carols of the Community Chorus at the parade's conclusion at the Pearisburg Community Center.

Dublin

"Celebrate America Christmas" at Dublin's parade Tuesday, Dec. 6 beginning at 7 p.m. at Dublin Garment and ending at the Dublin Middle School.

The parade includes the Shriners' Kazem Characters, the Pulaski County High School Band and Smokey the Bear, as well as floats, tractors and the like.

Participants may register up until the event by calling Deanna Hopkins at the Town of Dublin's offices, 674-4731.

Narrows

The annual Narrows Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. will run on an altered route this year due to construction on Memorial Boulevard.

Parade participants will gather at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church at the corner of Main Street and Memorial Boulevard then follow Main, Monroe and Mary streets to end at Narrows Elementary School.

To register for the parade, call the Narrows Town Hall at 726-2423. Cash prizes will be awarded to the the parade's best.

Santa Claus will visit the Narrows Fire Station after the parade.

Floyd

Get caught up in a "Country Wonderland" Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. at the 1994 Floyd Christmas Parade.

Entry forms are available at The Bank of Floyd, Harris and Baker Furniture, Wimmer Real Estate, Blue Ridge Bank and Rite Print Shoppe. Return the form by Saturday, Nov. 26 with a five dollar entry fee to : The Floyd Christmas Parade, in care of Shelby Lucas, P.O. Box 126, Riner, Va. 24149.
