'BULLETS' IS FAIR CALIBUR

"Bullets Over Broadway" is vintage Woody Allen - smart, funny, emotionally distant and very New Yorkish. It's exactly the sort of film that his fans adore and everyone else tends to ignore.

As a comedy, it's more amusing that laugh-out-loud funny, and that's as it should be. This Prohibition-era comedy of actors and gangsters has a darker side. In that regard, it could be seen as Allen's version of "Barton Fink."
