BARKSDALE, Mary Joyce, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 1994. Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Alexander ``Bill"" Barksdale Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Loretta Barksdale; two grandsons, Anthony Alexander Barksdale and Troy Lee Barksdale, all of Roanoke; one brother-in-law, Leroy Pennix, Roanoke; one sister-in-law, Nancy Barksdale, Oxen Hill, Md.; five nieces, Juanita Jones, Savannah Weddington, Lovie Cook, Roanoke, Shirley Miller, Oxen Hill, Md. and Audrey Williams, Tulsa, Okla.; a host of great-nieces, nephews and cousins; one devoted godson, William Avery, Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be Monday 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will recieve friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
BARNES, James Robert, (``Jimmie''), 33, of Alexander, Va. died Wednesday, October 12, 1994, after an extended illness in the Arlington Hospital. Born in Silver Spring, Md., he was raised by his great-aunt, Laura Brown of Roanoke, Va., after the death of his mother in 1967. While living in Roanoke, Jimmie was active in the Christian Endeavor Youth Group at Calvary Memorial Church and he participated in local gospel singing groups. He moved to Washington, D.C., to become regional make-up artist and cosmetician for Nordstoms Department Store. James Robert Barnes was the son of Bobby Joe Barnes and the late Helen Johnson Barnes. He was preceded in death by his adopted father and brother, L. R. Brown, Sr. and Edward Gorman Brown. He is survived by two brothers, eMichael and B. J. Barnes; and an extended family, Laura Johnson Brown (mother); sisters, Laura May Hall, Virginia Brown and Lois Brown Macdonald; and brothers, L. R. Brown, Jr. and Leon Brown. A memorial services is planned for Saturday, November 27, 1994, 11 a.m. at the Sherwood Memorial Park.

DOWNS, Annie Ledbetter, 98, of Route 3, Bedford, died Thursday, November 24, 1994. She was a retired secretary from the VA Medical Center and was a member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her son, William L. Downs and was the widow of William A. Downs. Surviving are her grandchildren, Melody Baker, Pamela Hedrick, both of Bedford, Brenda Wimmer, Elliston; her daughter-in-law, Betty West, Bedford; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church Monday, November 28, 1994 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Aaron J. Rummage officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. DYER, Judy Ann Moore, 47, of 9710 Chelsea Road, Chelsea, Alabama, formerly of Parrott and Dublin, Va., passed away Wednesday, November 23, 1994, at the Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, Tennessee as a result of an automobile accident. Born June 17, 1947 in Pulaski County, Va., she was the daughter of Warren (Jack) Eugene Moore and Mabel Sifford Moore. She was a Secretary and Bookkeeper for the Turner Carnathan and Livingston P.C. Birmingham, Alabama. Surviving are her husband, Robert (Bobby) Anthony Dyer, Chelsea, Alabama; one daughter, Tina Yvonne Gravely, Fairlawn, Va.; one son, Eddy Dwayne Bullion, Chelsea, Alabama; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Leigh Dyer, Birmingham, Alabama; one stepson, Robert Brian Dyer, Birmingham, Alabama; three grandchildren, Amber, Jessica, and Cody; parents, Warren (Jack) Eugene Moore and Mabel Sifford Moore, Dublin, Va.; maternal grandmother, Annie Sifford, Parrott, Va.; one sister, Karen Wilson Tolbert, Moneta, Va.; two brothers, Jackie Ray Moore, Christiansburg, Va., Charles Edward Moore, Lynchburg, Va. HALL, John Chesley Jr., (``J. C.''), 77, of Boones Mill, Va. died Thursday, November 24, 1994, at the Veterans Administrations Hospital, Salem, Va.; absent from the body, he is present with the Lord. He was a member of Clearbrook Grace Brethr en Church and was shop foreman and president of the AFLCIO at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries, Inc., Roanoke, Va. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy Seabees. Born May 7, 1917, he was the son of the late John C. and Sallie Elliott Hall, Sr. He was the dearly loved husband of Addie Achilles Hall, Boones Mill, Va. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Janet Hall III, Boones Mill, Va. and Charles Louis and Rhonda Hall, Rocky Mount, Va.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sallie Hall and Larry Shelor, Boones Mill, Va., Patricia Hall and David Hooke, Rocky Mount, Va., Marie Hall and Douglas Bishop, Stewartsville, Va. and Julia Hall Collins, Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Laura Hall Adkins, Dry Fork, Va. and Margaret Hall Pryant, Providence, N.C.; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two dedicated and loving friends, Garfield and Martha Argabright, Boones Mill, Va. JONES, Eula Puckett, 78, of Roanoke, died Monday, November 21, 1994. She was born November 10, 1916. Mrs. Jones was a member of Edgewood Lioness Club and served as secretary and treasurer. She was also a volunteer at Lewis Gale Hospital. She is survived by her husband, William H. (Bill) Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Durward and Jean Puckett, Fort Myers, Fla.; stepsister, Phyllis Trail, Martinsville. She was a member of Hollins Road Church of the Brethren and was preceded in death by her parents, Archie J. and Mittie W. Kirk, and a sister, Claudine K. Doss. Surviving are three sisters and a brother-in-law, Wave E. Kirk, Lila R. Kirk, Prudia K. and Robert C. Perdue; a brother and sister-in-law, Webb E. and Nancy B. Kirk, all of Roanoke. LANE, Ricky A., 33, of Salem, formerly of Herndon, died Wednesday, November 23, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital following a long illness. Born June 16, 1961, in Mullens, he was the son of William Ernest and Helen Juanita Bishop Lane of Bud. Mr. Lane was a seven year resident of Salem, where he attended the Mason Cove Chapel. He was employed as a master mechanic for Branch Highways Inc. in Roanoke. Other survivors include his wife, Yvonne Mitchem Lane; daughter, Rebecca Jeanette Lane; son, Nicholas Dalton Lane, both at home; sister, Mrs. Denny (Bonita) Smith, Herndon; and three brothers, William R. Lane and his wife, Marion, Sterling, Ernest E. Lane and his wife Thelma, Fredericksburg, and Edward D. Lane, Herndon. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Guyandotte Baptist Church with Elder Melvin Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery at Herndon. SENSABAUGH, Leonard Lee, 72, of Lexington, died Thursday, November 24, 1994, at University of Va. Medical Center, Charlottesville. He was born in Rockbridge Co., March 13, 1922, son of the Charlie Frank and Nettie Gaylor Sensabaugh. Mr. Sensabaugh was a member of Timber Ridge A. R. P. Church, veteran of World war II serving with the U. S. Army, and was retired from Dupont, in Waynesboro. Surviving are wife, Hyacinth Cline Sensabaugh, Lexington; son, Don Sensabaugh, Winter Park, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Marty Sensabaugh, Lexington; three grandson, Tav, Chad & Travis Sensabaugh all of Lexington; two faithful sisters-in-law, Haney Sensabaugh, Waynesboro, Ponsella Sensabaugh, Lexington; five sisters, Mable McCurdy and Alberta Serrett both of Waynesboro, Eunice Higginbotham, Rustburg, Elsie McKemey and Evelyn Sensabaugh both of Lexington. Born December 12, 1900, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Elizah Walker and Christine Cummings Tribbett. Mrs. Shaner was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and was a member of the Fairfield Senior Citizens. Surviving are two daughters, Betty S. Gardner, Eden, Utah, Mildred S. Athey, Front Royal; one son, Joseph S. (Jim) Shaner, Natural Bridge; son-in-law, G. William Pultz, Lexington; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was a self employed carpenter and was in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division; a member of First Assembly of God of Orlando. Survivors are wife, Brenda M. SWINK, Margaret Turner, (``Guinny""), 70, of Lexington, died Friday, November 25, 1994 in the Stonewall Jackson Extended Care Facility. She was born on April 10, 1924 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late A. S. Turner Sr. and Nina Pearl Life Turner. She grew up in McGaheysville and Harrisonburg, Va. Mrs. Swink was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, a Cub Scout Den Mother, taught sewing at the Rockbridge Regional Jail, and before retiring, she was Vice President of Wynmar Inc. V.M.I. Post Exchange Concessionaires for over 30 years. She modeled for Thomas Oak & Son, was an active member of Lexington Golf & Country Club Committees, and was a previous co-chairman of the Lexington Presbyterian Church Flower Committee. She was preceded in death by one brother, A. S. Turner Jr. Surviving are her husband for over 51 years, Charles E. ``Halfie"" Swink; three children, Charles E. Swink Jr., Richmond, Susan Swink Friski, Lexington, A. Dennis Swink II, Lexington; two brothers, Charles O. ``Red"" Turner, Lexington, David H. Turner, Harrisonburg; one sister, Nina Turner Stiteler, Culpeper; seven grandchildren, April Susan Friski, Amy Margaret Childs, Michael Patrick Friski Jr., Scott Dennis Swink, James Edward Swink, Melissa Ragin Swink, Elizabeth Rachel Swink; and several nieces and nephews.
