JUVENILE PROGRAM UNDERTAKING NEW PROJECTS

Pulaski's Juvenile Intervention Program is spinning off new projects out of its new quarters on the second floor of the Pulaski Municipal Building.

They include a youth newsletter, peer groups of young people, and a parent support group, said Brenda Conner, Juvenile Intervention Program coordinator.

In the peer group, young people will be able to discuss issues in their lives and whatever is of interest to the participants, she said. She is gathering videos, tapes and other materials for use during meetings.

Two issues of "The Cougar's Paw," the monthly newsletter, have been published this fall. The cougar is the sports symbol at Pulaski County High School. Amber Powers suggested the name for the newsletter..

The office also is distributing new brochures, designed and written by Mary Lynn Kotnour, a Virginia Tech student intern, on the program's various initiatives.

The overall program works with young people whose life circumstances or behavior indicate unmet needs or disruptions in their lives. It is aimed at helping them before they get into trouble.

Further information is available by calling Conner at 980-1220.
