REPORTED EARNINGS

Bell Atlantic Corp., Philadelphia parent of Bell Atlantic-Virginia, reported a third-quarter net loss of $1.87 billion, equal to $4.29 a share, on operating revenues of $3.42 billion, compared with year-earlier net income of $378.5 million, or 87 cents per share, on revenues of $3.29 billion. For the nine months, the net loss was $1.07 billion, equal to $2.45 a share, on revenues of $10.18 billion, compared with year-earlier net income of $1.07 billion, or 2.46 a share, on revenues of $9.67 billion.

Lechters

Lechters Inc., Harrison, N.J., housewares retailer with a store in Roanoke, reported net income of $1.2 million, or 7 cents per share, on sales of $91.1 million for its third quarter ended Oct. 29, compared with year-earlier $1.6 million, or 10 cents per share, on sales of $80.7 million. For the nine months, the company reported a net loss of $7.0 million, or 41 cents per share, on sales of $246.4 million, compared with year-earlier net income of $2.2 million, or 13 cents per share on sales of $216.5 million.

S&K Famous Brands

S&K Famous Brands Inc., Richmond menswear retailer with stores in Western Virginia, reported third-quarter net income of $336,200, or 7 cents per share, on sales of $27.2 million, compared with year-earlier $611,000, or 13 cents, on sales of $23.2 million. For the nine months, net income was $1.1 million, or 23 cents per share, on sales of $76.7 million, compared with year-earlier $2.1 million, or 44 cents, on sales of $65.3 million.
