GALAX MAN IS ACCUSED IN DEPUTY'S KNIFING

A Galax man was in custody Friday night after a Carroll County deputy sheriff was knifed and the man barricaded himself in his home for more than two hours.

Millard Stacy, 62, was charged with malicious wounding after Sgt. W.F. Bobbit was stabbed in the arm, according to Chief Investigator Rick Clark. Bobbit was taken to Twin County Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Bobbit had responded to a domestic dispute call Friday night at the home of Stacy's son-in-law. Bobbit and Stacy reportedly struggled, and Bobbit was stabbed with a knife.

Stacy fled and barricaded himself in his home on Cliffview Road, just outside of Galax, authorities said. Officers from the sheriff's department, state police and Galax police surrounded the home while Sheriff R.D. Carrico negotiated with Stacy over the phone.

Stacy did shoot a firearm inside his home at some point during the negotiations, Clark said.

Stacy was being held in the Carroll County jail under $25,000 bond pending his arraignment in General District Court.
