The Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership has elected officers for 1994-95: JOHN B. WILLIAMSON III, vice president of finance for Roanoke Gas Co., president; CHARLES A. SALDARINI, president of Roanoke area for First Union National Bank of Virginia, vice president; GERALD BURGESS, administrator of Botetourt County, secretary; and RANDOLPH SMITH, Salem city manager, treasurer. BETH DOUGHTY continues as executive director, responsible for daily operations of the organization.
New directors are JOSEPH BUSH, representing the Vinton Chamber of Commerce; LANIER FRANTZ, Craig County; STEVE POWELL, Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce; Saldarini, Roanoke County; ANNE LEE STEVENS, Salem; and F. EDWARD HARRIS, Roanoke.
The partnership is the economic development marketing organization for Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke counties, and Roanoke, Salem and Vinton.
BUILDING SUPPLIES
JOE STANFORD has been named co-manager at 84 Lumber in Pearisburg. Stanford will be responsible for store operations, including sales and inventory control. He started with the 84 chain in April at its Troutville store.
HEALTH CARE
DR. JOHN HEIL, a licensed clinical psychologist at the Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem, has been elected chairman of health psychology by the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He will be responsible for creating and implementing the national association's new health psychology program. Since 1991, Heil has been director of sports medicine for the Commonwealth Games of Virginia. He also has provided consulting services for the U.S. Fencing Association, Virginia Amateur Sports and Tour du Pont.
HOSPITALITY
MARTHA HEAGANY, director of marketing at the The Homestead resort in Hot Springs, and SHARON ROWE, director of advertising and public relations at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., have been named to the board of advisers for Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation based in Washington, D.C.
MANUFACTURING
JOHN BASSETT III, president and chief executive officer of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. in Galax, has been elected second vice president of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association, the largest trade association for furniture manufacturers in the United States.
NONPROFITS
Several Roanoke business leaders have been elected to the board of the Julian Stanley Wise Foundation: KENNETH C. KING, an attorney with King & Higgs; HOWARD PACKETT, president of The Packett Group, a marketing and design firm; STEPHEN A. MUSSELWHITE, president of Musselwhite and Associates, an insurance agency; and GEOFF M. OTTAWAY, president of Avis Rent-A-Car at Roanoke Regional Airport. Wise, a Roanoke native, organized the world's first volunteer rescue squad, the Roanoke Life Saving & First Aid Crew, in 1928.
The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) has elected new officers for 1994-95: LEONARD- D. HATCH JR., retired national bank examiner, chairman; ERNEST D. KAUFMAN, Kaufman Associates, vice chairman; JOHN T. RYAN, retired from IBM, secretary; and RUTH S. SPRADLIN, retired from Colonial American Bank (later acquired by Crestar Financial Corp.), treasurer. ROBERT E. CARTER, retired from Burroughs/Unisys, has been named district manager for SCORE statewide operations.

TRANSPORTATION
SUE WADE has been appointed marketing coordinator for Lawrence Transportation Systems Inc., an agent of United Van Lines. Wade has more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience, seven of which have been in the moving industry. In her new position, she will be responsible for the marketing coordination and communications of Lawrence's six facilities in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
MICHAEL C. WOHLFORD has been promoted to manager of sales and service at Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.'s Roanoke terminal. Wohlford, a veteran of nine years in the transportation field, joined Old Dominion in February 1993 and was previously a district sales representative at the Charleston, S.C., terminal.
