WYTHEVILLE - A Wytheville couple who regularly play the same set of Virginia Lottery numbers each won $100,000 prizes from tickets bought at Dillon's IGA Foodette.
Other retailers have sold more than one winning top-prize ticket, but the Wytheville Foodette is the first to sell two winning tickets in the same drawing.
James R. and Janie L. Repass of Wytheville each collected checks for $68,000, after taxes, from the Abingdon Lottery office for correctly matching all five numbers in the Nov. 18 Cash 5 drawing.
They were not the only Wythe County residents to win a $100,000 prize.
Bythya Bowers, who bought her winning ticket at Sentry Food Mart in Austinville, let the terminal select her numbers combination. It won the Nov. 19 Cash 5 drawing, and Bowers collected her check at the Roanoke Lottery office.
More centers for recycling urged
WYTHEVILLE - Wythe County Engineer Dave Evans has recommended that the county establish 10 to 12 trash collection and recycling centers in place of unmanned green boxes.
The county already has four recycling centers and a fifth being planned. Evans and County Administrator Bill Branson have been authorized to develop a new site plan for centers to be considered by the Board of Supervisors.
In other business at last week's board meeting, the supervisors heard a recommendation from the Rural Retreat Lake Authority to build a new pool at the lake site. It would cost an estimated $424,000 to renovate the existing pool and $575,000 to build a new one.
The supervisors agreed to seek a grant to help fund the project. But it seems unlikely that work could be funded and get under way in time for the pool to be open by summer.
