BOWLES, Frances Cheshire, 103, of 207 Cornerstone Apt., Martinsville, died Sunday, November 27, 1994 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born February 7, 1891 the daughter of the late Daniel L. Bowles and Louise Cheshire Bowles. She was retired from the Martinsivlle Post Office in 1955 after 43 years service. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Martinsville. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. J. M. (Bertha) Shackelford and Miss Alice Bowles, and two brothers, Daniel LeRoy Bowles and Paul W. Bowles. Surviving are a niece, Mrs. Jack Gallagher, Culpeper; a great-niece, Miss Anne Bowles, Roanoke; a great-nephew, Robert Bowles, Roanoke. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ferd Wagner and the Rev. Tommy Herndon officiating. The family will receive friends at the home, 207 Cornerstone Apt., 10 Starling Ave., Martinsville. BRIDGES, Shirley Fralin, 59, of Callaway, loving wife, mother and best friend, left our loving arms Saturday, November 26, 1994, and passed into the loving arms of Jesus. Born February 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Mae McNeil Fralin. She retired from Bassett Walker in 1991. Surviving are her husband, James H. Bridges, Callaway; four daughters, Evonne Custer and Cynthia Bernard, both of Ferrum, Va., Diane Pugh, Boones Mill, Va., Patricia A. Bridges, Rocky Mount, Va.; three sons, James C. Bridges, Callaway, Va., John H. Bridges, Elliston, Va. and Joseph E. Bridges, Ferrum, Va.; two sisters, M. Joyce Clark, Roanoke, Va. and Jane Thompson, Roc ky Mount, Va.; one brother, Wilburn Fralin, Boones Mill, Va.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and special friends, Terry Patton and Virginia Reid. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 1994 at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Kirbey Phillips officiating. BRIZENDINE, Odell Ellis, 76, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, November 26, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Brizendine was born in Craig County on September 20, 1918, a son of the late Edward and Lemmer Sloan Brizendine. He was a veteran of World War II. Preceding him in death was a son, Billy G. Brizendine. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mabel Hutchinson Brizendine; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Clorene Brizendine, Richmond, Roger and Patsy Brizendine, Larry (Jake) and Cindy Brizendine, Terry Brizendine, all of Blacksburg; sister, Clare Lincoln, Roanoke; two brothers, Burnell Brizendine, Salem and Carl Brizendine, Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vincent J. Guerra officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. CLARK, James Wilson Jr., 74, of Salem, passed away Saturday, November 26, 1994. He was retired from Laborers Local #980 since 1980. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Hearl, Lynchburg; two sons, James William Clark, W. C. Clark, both of Roanoke; stepdaughter, Patricia McCarty, Roanoke; stepson, J. D. Hill, Salem; five sisters, Margaret Newell, Lisa Goodbar, Erma Irvine, Jean Black, and Beulah Brown, all of Lexington; two brothers, Custis Clark, Cullertown, W. C. Clark, Nellysford; also surviving are 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, November 29, 1994, at 2 p.m. in Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. James K. Jett officiating. CONNELLY, Dorothy Burns, 79, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Roanoke, died Sunday, November 27, 1994. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

CRIKELAIR, Diane Dunman, of Ventura, California, formerly of Roanoke, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 23, 1994. EARHART, Ruby Clemmer, 61, of Raphine, died Saturday, November 26, 1994 at the University of Va. Medical Center, Charlottesville. Born in Rockbridge Co. on August 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Clemmer and Fern Dunaway Clemmer. She was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church and was employed at the Washington & Lee University Book Store. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kelcey Chittum. Surviving are her husband, Junior W. Earhart, Raphine; three daughters, Norma Jean Earhart, Raphine, Kathy Marci, Moore, Okla., Jennifer Reese, Ste eles Tavern; one son, Larry G. Earhart, Fairfield; one sister, Emily C. Miller, Staunton; three brothers, Leo Clemmer, Fairfield, G. D. Clemmer, Fairfield, Ray Clemmer, Waynesboro; three half brothers, Vastine Clemmer, Staunton, Russell Clemmer, Roanoke, William Clemmer, Richmond; and also, eight grandchildren. McGRADY, Jordan Dawes, 69, of Hillsville, Va., passed away Friday, November 25, 1994, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was born September 14, 1925 in Carroll County, Va. the son of the late Herman McGrady and Ma ry Hester Bowman McGrady. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. McGrady returned to Carroll County to work at the Guynn Furniture and Hardware in Hillsville. He worked there until the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel Funeral Home was opened in 1952. He was a stockholder of and served as Secretary/Treasurer of Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady in Hillsville, Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax and the Guynn Realty Corporation of Galax, as well as manager of the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel for 42 years until his retirement October 1, 1994. He was a member of the Hillsville First United Methodist Church where he held various offices throughout the years. He previously served on the Board of Directors at Nations/Bank of Hillsville. He was an active member and past president of the Hillsville Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sue Gardner McGrady; two sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Bowman, Hillsville, June and Guy Bowman, Woodlawn; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, November 28, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Malone officiating. PHLEGAR, Wirtie Mullins, 88, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, November 26, 1994, at Richfield Nursing Center, Salem. Mrs. Phlegar was born in Roanoke on May 10, 1906, a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Elizabeth Stanley Mullins. She was preceded in death by her husband, David S. Phlegar, M.D. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Katharine Phlegar Davis, Blacksburg; a son and daughter-in-law, David S. III and Julianne Phlegar, Slidell, La.; grandchildren, Susan Montague Davis, Richmond, Katharine Frances Phlegar, Slidell, La.; a brother, Ralph W. Mullins, Greensboro, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Keister Boone, Charlotte, N.C. SIMPSON, Dorothy Clark, (``Dot"") 60, of Dublin, passed away Saturday, November 26, 1994. She was a member of the West Radford Church of God and was retired from Radford Community Hospital. Surviving is her husband, Paul Chambers Simpson Jr.; two sons, David Lee Hopkins, Roanoke, Kenneth Wayne Hopkins, Floyd; two daughters, Donna Simpson Thomas, Dublin, Susan Simpson Summers, Pulaski; three brothers, Richard E. Carden and Kenneth Carden, both of Baltimore, Md., and Eddie Carden of California; four sisters, Charlotte R. TURNER, Raymond Henry, 65, of Rt. 3, Huddleston, died Sunday, November 27, 1994 at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Turner was the husband of Rebecca DeLancy Turner and had worked in the garden shop of Moneta Farm Service, after retiring from Perrott Engineering Labs. He was born in Washington, D.C., October 15, 1929, a son of the late John Valter Turner and Margaret Ferguson Turner. In addition to his wife, Mr. Turner is survived by three brothers, John M. Turner, Riverdale, Md., Reginald B. Turner, Richmond, Hampton E. Turner, Chesterfield; two sisters, Velma Turner, Arlington, Margaret Turner Lee, Meredith, N.H.; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Turner, Charlottesville, Wanda Turner, Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. VEST, Anne Burns, 54, of Floyd, passed away in a Roanoke hospital, Sunday, November 27, 1994. She is survived by her husband, David R. Vest, Floyd; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Susan Vest, Floyd; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Kenneth Walters, Kimberly and Timothy Turman, all of Floyd; mother, Thelma F. WRIGHT, William Paul Sr., 77, of Roanoke, died Sunday, November 27, 1994, in an area nursing home. He was born in Blowing Rock, N.C. and had resided in Roanoke since 1965. He had retired as an engineer with the Federal Highway Administration after 35 years of service. He was also a Marine Corp veteran of World War II and is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred I. Wright. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William Paul Jr. and Patricia A. Wright of Salem; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda J. and Shannon Palmer of Vinton, Joann and Jerry McCoy of Troutman, N.C.; a brother, Thomas Wright of Boone, N.C.; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Ira F. Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
