BLACKSBURG MAN HURT, BUT FAMILY ESCAPES FIRE

One man suffered minor injuries but his wife, two children and a pair of puppies escaped without harm from a fire early Sunday at a Blacksburg store.

Firefighters arrived at the Oriental Food Market at 713 N. Main St. about 1:30 a.m. and found the top floor of the two-story building swallowed by flames, according to Blacksburg police.

The owners of the store, Chen-Chi Shing and Chiz-Mey Shing, their children and the puppies were still on the lower floor when firetrucks arrived. Chen-Chi Shing had glass cuts on his hands and feet.

The upstairs, where the family lived, was destroyed. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
