ROANOKER LOSES IN TENNIS EVENT

Roanoke's K.J. Hippensteel struggled with cramps and lost a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision to Erik Zmara of Little Neck, N.Y., in a boys' 14-and-under singles semifinal Sunday at the U.S. Tennis Association Indoor National Championships in Chicago.

In doubles, Hippensteel teamed with Philip Nguyen of Lancaster, Pa., to defeat Ramez Quamar of Fairfax and Dustin Freedman of Owings Mills, Md., 6-3, 6-3 in a semifinal. Hippensteel will play a consolation singles match and the doubles final today.
