ALL OF BLACKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL PITCHES IN TO AID THE NEEDY

Blacksburg High School's students, faculty and staff worked together to provide holiday food baskets to 162 needy families in the New River Valley in this year's THANKSGIVING BASKET DRIVE.

Members of each club and organization at the school collected food and supplies to make at least one basket containing enough food for a family holiday meal.

Wade's Supermarket sold hams to the school at reduced prices to add to each basket.

The students displayed the decorated baskets Wednesday on stage at a schoolwide assembly. They watched live performances of excerpts from the Theatre Arts Association's Comedy Nite Live and listened to praise by keynote speaker Blacksburg Police Chief Bill Brown.

After the assembly students loaded the baskets into police cars from the Blacksburg Police Department, the Christiansburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. The police, with the help of a list from the Community Action group, distributed the baskets to the families.

The school reached its goal of exceeding last year's distribution of 130 baskets. Marianna Fillmore, an adviser to the Student Council Organization, was impressed with the school's effort to create a better holiday for those in need. "We wanted to meet or expand the number from last year," she said. "We are very pleased with the results."
