TECH TO OPEN '95 ON ESPN

Virginia Tech and Boston College will open the Thursday night College Football Association telecast schedule on ESPN next season, the Roanoke Times & World-News learned Monday.

The Big East Football Conference will move the Tech home opener from Sept.9 to Sept.7 for the prime-time telecast. The Hokies plan to announce their 1995 schedule later this week.

Other than the Kickoff and Pigskin classics, the BC-Tech contest will be the first Division I-A game played next season. Both teams will be coming off bowl appearances and return a majority of their starters.

Tech's other home games, all on Saturdays, are with Syracuse, Miami, Cincinnati and Akron.
