BOTETOURT DEVELOPER FREE ON BOND

A Botetourt real estate developer was released on bond Monday after spending the weekend in jail.

Jim Hancock had been arrested Friday by Botetourt sheriff's deputies on an assault and battery warrant sworn out by his mother, Dorothy Hancock. Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Hagan said the assault took place Wednesday, and Dorothy Hancock filed charges Friday.

Hancock was released on his own recognizance Friday on the condition that he have no contact with his mother, but was rearrested Saturday.

Hagan said Hancock violated the release agreement by returning to his mother's home several times between Friday night and Saturday. Hagan said Dorothy Hancock was not assaulted during those visits.

Hancock, whose 360-acre commercial-residential complex in Daleville was recently approved by Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, was released Monday from jail on a $2,500 bond.
