DOWNTOWN DETOUR WILL BE CLOSED

The detour from Wells Avenue to Shenandoah Avenue through the Hotel Roanoke parking lot will be closed Thursday so work can begin on the parking lot.

The change will eliminate traffic on Wells Avenue until March. Motorists using Exit 5 off Interstate 581 still can get to the downtown area by continuing onto Williamson Road.

Also, access to Commonwealth Avenue from I-581 at Exit 5 will be closed. Access to Howard's Car Care still will be available from Williamson Road.
