COMPUTER CLASS AIMED AT REMOVING FEAR OF TECHNOLOGY

Computers are not scary, says Joy Herbert, Blacksburg's senior program's director. She invites area seniors who want to learn more about them to sign up for a COMPUTER CLASS FOR SENIORS in January. Classes are set for Jan. 17, 19, 24 and 26, 4-5 p.m., at the New Media Center, second floor, Newman Library, Virginia Tech. The cost is $15.

Herbert said some seniors feel intimidated by the new technology, but apparently a lot more are eager to learn. "I've gotten a lot of good responses," she said, adding that a few callers also expressed interested in the Blacksburg Electronic Village.

Tina Fox, who teaches computer classes for Montgomery County Schools and for the town of Blacksburg, is the instructor for this beginner's class, where learners review keyboard skills and basic word processing. Additional classes could follow, Herbert said.

Registration is Jan. 11-16 at the Blacksburg Community Center, 725 Patrick Henry Drive. Herbert has more information at 961-1134.
