Go 11/2 miles and turn left on Virginia 672 (Etzler Road). Go 11/2 miles, watch for DalNita Hills sign on left. Ferris Farm is the first driveway on the left past sign.
Pine Haven Tree Farm: Route 1, Box 294, Fincastle. 473-2949. Large number of white pines, 6-20 feet, $15. Limited number of Fraser firs, 5-8 feet, $25. Staff will cut. Hours: Daily, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Dec. 1-Dec. 24. Directions: From Roanoke, go north on Interstate 81, take Exit 156 to U.S. 11. Go north 4 miles; turn left on Virginia 639 and go 3 miles. New River Valley
Hollandsworth Choose-and-Cut Tree Farm: 700 Tower Rd., Christiansburg. 382-6550. White pines up to 8 feet. All trees $8. Saws provided. Hours: Monday-Friday, 3 p.m.-dark; weekends, 10 a.m. till dark. Directions: One-half mile from Interstate 81 take exit 118 in Montgomery County. Turn off U.S. 460 at Days Inn onto Tower Road and go 1/2 mile. Farm is on right.
Larsen Tree Farm: 3420 Childress Road, Riner. 382-4668, 1-800- LARSEN-4. Thousands of white pine and Norway spruces, up to 12 feet; hundreds of Scotch pines, Fraser, balsam, white, grand and Douglas firs; white and blue spruces; red, Virginia and Austrian pines. Cut or dig your own, $25 any type or height. Pines already cut are $2-$9, Norway spruce already cut $25. Burlap, $1; saws and spades on loan, but bring your own tools if possible. Wreaths from $8 and roping is $5 for 15 feet for white pine, $9 for 30 feet and $20 for 75 feet. Hours: Daily through Dec. 22, noon to 5 p.m. Directions: From Roanoke on U.S. 221, turn right on Virginia 615 just before Floyd town limits. Go 2.5 miles, turn right on Virginia 686 and travel about 2 miles across Little River. Farm is on right at top of the hill.
Franklin County, Rocky Mount
Byrd's Tree Farm: Route 691, Boones Mill. 334-2989. Hundreds of white pines, 4 to 12 feet, $15. Assistance and equipment available. Directions: From U.S. 220, go 21/2 miles south of Boones Mill to Virginia 691 and turn left. Go 1 1/2 miles. Look for steep gravel driveway and sign on right.
Falling Run Tree Farm: Route 40 west, Rocky Mount. 483-1206 or 576-2775. 1,000 white pines up to 8 feet tall. $15. Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Buyer or staff cuts; saws provided. Directions: 3.3 miles west of Franklin Plaza Shopping center on Route 40. Turn at the sign across from Holley's Used Auto Parts. Farm is at the end of the road.
Hummingbird Hill Farm: Ferrum. 365-2005. 1,200 white pines and table toppers, 5-6 feet, $10-$15. Staff cuts. Daylight hours only. Directions: Go west from Rocky Mount on Virginia 40 two miles past Ferrum College. Turn right on Virginia 752, to 2 miles to virginia 748 and turn left. Go 11/2 miles to mailbox and gate, farm is on right.
Bedford County
Crestwood Tree Farm: Virginia 691, Union. 362-0979. 4,000 white pines, Norway spruces, $12-$15. Cut your own or staff cuts. Saw furnished. 9 a.m.-dark. Directions: From Roanoke, take U.S. 460 east to Virginia 691. Go 31/2 miles, turn left (still on Virginia 691) for 21/2 miles to sign. Or, take Virginia 24 east to Stewartsville and turn left on Virginia 619 at the Hop In. Go 9 miles and turn right on Virginia 691 for 1/2 mile to sign and farm.
Dancing Hill Tree Farm: Route 7, Box 273, Bedford. 586-3746. 750 white pines, 5-12 feet, $15-$30. Hours: Weekdays, noon until dark; weekends, 9 a.m. until dark. Owner will cut. Directions: From Bedford, take Virginia 122 north to Liberty High School. Turn left on Virginia 644. Go one-half mile, turn right at the sign.
Green Needles Tree Farm: Bedford County. (804) 299-5512. Choose and cut from 1,500 white pines, up to 16 feet tall. $3 per foot. Limited number of pre-cut Fraser firs, ball and burlap-wrapped blue spruce and Scotch pines. Trees cut, cleaned, baled and loaded by staff. Wreaths made daily. Hours: Monday-Friday, noon until dark; Saturday, 9 a.m. until dark; and Sunday, 1 p.m. until dark. Directions: From Lynchburg Boonsboro area, take U.S. 501 north for about 5 miles. Take left onto Virginia 657. Go 1.4 miles to farm.

Go 31/2 miles and turn right onto Virginia 721 toward the Falling Springs Firehouse. Farm is sixth house on the right.
Augusta County
Tannehill Tree Farm: Deerfield. 962-1118. Choose and cut. More than 1,000 white pine, $20; Scotch pine, $24; and Norway spruce, $26; all 3 feet and up. Pre-cut Fraser fir also available, $24-$50, depending on size. All proceeds benefit Boys' Home, Covington. Hours: Dec. 3,4,10,11,17 and 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Equipment and assistance provided. Wreaths also sold. Directions: Take Interstate 81 north to Lexington and Interstate 64 west to exit 29. Take Virginia 42 north for 15 miles. Turn left onto Virginia 39 for 1 mile. Then turn right onto Indian Draft (Virginia 629) and continue for 15 miles. Turn right onto Old Parkersburg Turnpike (Virginia 688). After one-half mile, turn right onto Virginia 689. After crossing the Maury River bridge, take left on Virginia 602 (Turkey Hill Road). Follow road for 1 mile; trees are alongside road.
