DUBLIN - Virginia Chamber of Commerce President Hugh Keogh will be the main speaker at the annual banquet of the Pulaski County Chamber at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 in the New River Community College Student Lounge.
Tickets for the buffet dinner, catered by the Marriott Corp. division at Pulaski Community Hospital, are $15. Reservations can be made by Dec. 9 by calling the chamber office at 980-1991.
Keogh is former director of the Virginia Department of Economic Development. He also has been president of Forward Hampton Roads, the economic development arm of the Hampton Roads Chamber.
Other banquet activities include the annual presentations of the Business Executive of the Year Award, Chamber Excellence Award and the Southwest Times Civic Honors Award.
Databook honored
LOUISVILLE - The Montgomery County Department of Economic Development won a merit award for its databook, "Facts and Figures, Montgomery County, Virginia," in the prospect presentation materials category of the Southern Industrial Development Council's Literature and Promotional Awards competition.
The book details Montgomery County demographics, including statistics on education, industry, health care, taxes, government and community activities.
Child center opens
CHRISTIANSBURG - New Beginnings Child Development Center recently opened at 420 Starlight Drive in the former location of Tiny Tots Daycare Center.
The center, owned and operated by Jeff and Terry Stump and directed by Julie Davis, is open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
New Beginnings will offer special weekend and evening hours over the holiday season to give parents a chance to do holiday shopping.
